Threadless Denied

Apparently they feel that its not as good as it could be to have the best chance for success, which given some of the stuff they approve is a bit of a slap in the face. I liked the design, and the roughness was a deliberate part of it, obviously I could make it more polished, but then, in my opinion, it wont work as well. Now I must think on this and decide if its worth changing and re-submitting.
In other art news I am working on some initial idea sketches for a concept critter that falls under the banner mischief, lets see how that goes, will post initial sketches later.

Threadless and wanting money for my art.

I little while ago I was making some designs with a lazy eye towards t-shirt prints on my red-bubble. (a little unsatisfying for the most part because of the limited print area there). As I would make them I'd do my usual thing and post them up on facebook and see what friends thought about it. One of these designs, one that started pretty much and a doodle / experiment seemed to go over pretty well. I got a lot of positive feedback about it and a fair number of people where saying that they would so were a shirt like that. Someone also threw up the idea of submitting it to Threadless.

So with my hat in hand I final got off my arse and have submitted it. Now assuming it gets approval, it will go up for scoring and if it scores enough it will be printed. Now I'm not holding out for that to happen, but it would be nice, and nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Hell if you like it you can always head on over and score it once the scoring opens up.

Black Fairy Lethal

My first image for this blog, Black Fairy Lethal. An image I painted in photoshop on Christmas eve and day (I don't really have a family to do the Christmas thing with so it usually becomes a bit of and art and booze day).
The idea was to make an art nouveau style image, with a mix of the bioshock rapture style dystopia setting. I am quite happy with this piece and its what I would call a finished piece rather then a sketch or study, as such I have added it to my redbubble and prints can be purchased through there. (and finished work I usually add there on the off chance someone wants a print.)

I'll just add a note here to say, this blog is not about my pimping art for sale, but as I am using it to document my creative endeavours I will note when I have added something to the saleable pile.

Now I am turning an eye to stuff I really need to work on, images with complex backgrounds, concepts of creatures, machines and environments. I need to push myself and not play safe... that probably includes drawing more men, though my motivation is often low in that regard. :)

Initial Post, the why and wherefore.

Up until recently I have been working as a artist for a video game company, initially as a senior 3D prop artist and later as a concept artist. A few months ago the company I worked for reached an end point, after surviving several rounds of redundancy I was finally laid off, and 2 weeks later said company closed its doors. Thus for the first time in 8 years I have found myself without a job.

Well almost, I have managed to take the massive step backward and secure a casual survival job in the hospitality industry while I attempt to secure professional work again. Which brings me to this blog. Simply put, I intend to use this blog to document attempts to get work (and work life once I gain it again) and to show art I make and document thoughts and experiences about other creative fields I dabble in.

There will not be reference to my day to day life or relationships outside of how they effect my creative endeavours, this is not an angst blog, just an art one. All are welcome, as is feedback, the only caveat being that any racist, sexist, homophobic remarks will be either deleted or mocked dependent on my whim. Also by way of 'warning' my art tends to lean towards the dark and fantastic. Dystopian environments, Victorian steam punk and the like are common themes for me.
