The Endless

The urge to make fan art was upon me, thus I give you 'The Endless' in chibi / super deformed style

With the commencement of my new full time job come Monday, this is the last of my late, late art nights for a while... no more 3am finishes, it makes me a bit sad, all else asside, unemployment / casual job gave me time to work on my art. Time I have not had in an age, and I will miss it. Oh well the work is only for 3 months, and hopefully I can still dedicate a big chunk of my spare time to it. Art, circus, violin, exercise and social stuff, ahh the life of an over extender. :)

Zygon Re-work

A concept rework of the Zygons, one of my favourite aliens from old Doctor Who.

I wanted to keep the iconic aspects of the dome head and barrel stomach and of course the nodules but I wanted to make certain changes. Up the sea creature and fungal growth aspects. In the original series they were supposed to be a physicaly strong race, so I wanted to pick up the musculature, and to finish up I wanted to up the damp and the ooze to increase the aspects of repulsion..
In the end I am reasonably happy with the outcome.

Zygon Harbour

As part of my cycle of ongoing practice and education, a scene in 3 point perspective, concept of a Zygon spaceship launching from out of the ocean. I owe the core ship design to Doctor Who and lay no claim to the Zygons.

This took me a lot more effort then I would of liked, had a lot of issues with the cylindrical nature of the ship and the off angles of the legs were counter intuitive and many times I felt like giving up on it, but in the end I'm not too disappointed in the outcome.

Now maybe to do a Zygon re-design as creature concept practice.

The finished mischief maker concept 'The Road Gremlin'

I could not decide between doing it as a cartoony type of thing or a more 'realistic' style so I decided to to both. The realistic style one required the addition of a fair amount of additional fine detail and thus went through an another final development iteration. I am reasonably happy with the outcome.

Mischief Maker, Concept Process continued

Process 03: At this point when I have decided on the overall form, I move to an iterative process. I take the base image, copy it as many times as needed and make changes... I select the one I like the best, then it becomes the base, gets copied etc. The changes are often little, but I like to work this way if I have the time. Now I have my final 'rough' its time to do the finished image. Half design concept, half illustration.

Mischief Maker, Concept Process

Currently doing a bit of concept practice and I thought I would post the process here because, well its my blog :)

Process 01: Initial thumbs playing with the idea 'Mischief Maker' I will pick one or two and develop it further. Leaning towards the first image, because I think it will be cute and maybe saleable and the second, because its interesting to me and I need more experience with this kind of stuff.

Process 02: Development of the second idea, the "Road Gremlin". I quite like the second and third ones, but will probably select the second one. Looks like it could have more dynamic movement and be a bit cuter, keeping in line with my idea of mischief.
I will post more as I make it.
